Top 20 Best Restaurants in Tokyo
This is an excellent Yakiniku restaurant, very popular though expensive. There are several seatings for dinner with a maximum time limit of 2 hours. Yaki-niku (grilled-meat) is korean style barbecue using beef. All the beef cuts served here are grade A5 which is the highest quality of beef available. The selection of beef is impressive with all parts of the beef served. There is a picture menu of a cow with all parts labelled in Japanese to help in ordering. Please note there is no english menu/ english speaking staff and the restaurant requests you visit with at least one Japanese speaker to order.
Each plate comes with about 5 slices of meat, served in a small portion, enabling the customer to try lots of different beef cuts, a kind of “beef tapas”. The beef is cooked by oneself, at your own table on a hot grill plate, giving everyone the choice to cook the meat to their own preferred style (from rare to well-done). Usually the beef will be simply seared on both sides for a few short minutes to keep the full flavour of the meat, depending on the cut. Rohsu (loin) and Karubi (short ribs) are some of the best parts of the cow with each portion JPY1,050. Harami (the tender meat around the diaphragm) is also popular and slightly more expensive at JPY1,370 per portion. All the meat served is beautiful and tender. The beef is served with a selection of dipping sauces, salt, shoyu (soy) based and lemon all of which are best eaten with different cuts of beef.
Beef offal/ hormone (intestines, tongue etc) are also served and very popular. Please note that some hormone contain a lot of fat and will create a lot of smoke when cooking. From time to time the waiter/ waitress will pass by and replace each grill plate with a clean grill plate to stop too much smoke from accumulating.
There are also other popular Korean dishes served such as Kimchi, beansprouts and spicy cold noodles at the end, to name but a few.
The restaurant itself is very busy, smoky from both the grilled beef and cigarette smoke and lively, which makes for a great ambience. The restaurant also has the added bonus of a small but decent wine list which is unusual for a Yakinuku restaurant.
Dinner with a selection of beef dishes and much wine JPY18,000 per person. Japanese menu only.
