IZUMI Very good Sushi in Hase, course menu, recommend for dinner with Nihon-shu (sake)
AZEYA
Lovely Izakaya on 1st floor of building close to Kamakura station West Exit. Noodles from Shikoku and great sashimi and fish dinners. Nihon-shu and wine also served. Expensive ¥9,000 for dinner for 2 persons.
TONTAN small restaurant on the busy Komachi Dori in the same building as ‘Blue Moon’, hidden away at the back. Run by a few middle aged/ elderly ladies the dishes are simple home-made Japanese dishes such as ‘Ketchup rice ‘ ¥900, Chicken and egg rice bowl ¥1,200, minced beef rice and spicy or dry curry all between ¥900-¥1000.
NARUTOYA Organic and Macro-biotic restaurant serving Udon and vegetable lunch sets with small side dishes. On the second floor on left side about 50m from the entrance of Komachi Dori. Lunch set approx ¥1,500
MATSUBARA AN Soba restaurant in Yuigahama. Very busy so recommend making a reservation in advance or queue for at least 30mins on the day.
Western style Cafe Restaurants
YUKI NO CHAYA Hamburg restaurant en route to Kamaraku-Gu and Houkaiji temple. Cake set also available. More expensive than usual lunch set at ¥1,800 for the Hamburg lunch only.
SHONAN CLUB The owner used to work at Alice Waters’ restaurant Chez Panisse in San Francisco and tries to follow the same philosophy that cooking should be based on the finest and freshest seasonal ingredients that are produced sustainably and locally. You can enjoy home-made soup, quiche and hash brown rice in a quiet cafe off Komachi Dori. Prices around ¥1,000.
BLUE ROOM Craft beer and pizza with excellent sides and appetizers. Craft beer from the UK also sometimes available. Beer ¥800 (half), pizza ¥1,200-¥1,700.
